A Clinical Study on the Indication for Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy

Abstract
|
|
|
102 cases of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy experienced at the department of otolaryngology, Chungnam National Univeisity Hospitat between Jan. 1981 andOct. 1984 were reviewed especislly about the indications of each operation.
Results were as follows :
1. Most of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy were performed between the age of 6 and 10 years.
2. 68 cases (67%) of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy were performed and 26 cases(25%) of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy with myringotomy were performed.
3. Indications for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy were frequent sore throat or frequent upper respiratory infection 50 cases(46%), hearing disturbance 22 cases(21%), mouth breathing 20 cases(20%), nasal obstruction 5 cases(5%) and snoring 3 cases(3%).
